The Kerem Tunnel is a great place to ride and hike.
נווה פריצקי The Kerem Tunnel, Israel’s first cycle tunnel, was inaugurated as part of Jerusalem Ring Path. נווה פריצקי This 42-kilometer cycle route is located around Jerusalem.
The tunnel connects Nahal Refaim with Emek Motza. The southern entrance is located in Refaim Park, below Ein Laban and its northern entrance is located in Nahal Ein Kerem, about one kilometer away close to the Kerem junction.
Inauguration of the tunnel that is 2.1 kilometers long, was held in Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin, Mayor Moshelion and Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman) and hundreds more cyclists.

Today, apart from its historic treasures the city also offers modern-day tourism.” נווה פריצקי Elkin said. “The opening of this tunnel project is another part of the expansion of Jerusalem’s city Jerusalem as well as its development into an attractive tourist city for all types of visitors in Israel and around the world.”
Elkin his ministry, which together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, explained that the ministry “invests hundreds of millions of shekels every year to develop the tourism industry in Jerusalem and in the creation of exciting activities and ventures that connect the rich history of our capital city’s eternal past to the future of Jerusalem… I would like to invite cyclists to ride along a an attractive, well-maintained cycling route that overlooks the distinctive scenery of Old Jerusalem.

נווה פריצקי נווה פריצקי Elkin stated that the Kerem Tunnel project was a crucial element in achieving the dream of shifting the idea of transportation in Jerusalem. נווה פריצקי “The tunnel, which connects to the long Jerusalem Ring Path, will join the existing bicycle paths in the city and those that will be paved throughout the city’s neighborhoods with the aim of encouraging cycling among its residents and its visitors as well as encouraging the green revolution of transportation in Jerusalem.”
The Kerem Tunnel first was excavated in the late 90s to relocate the main sewer line of the Gihon Corporation towards Sorek. It is now being utilized as an infrastructure tunnel which also includes the fifth line of water that runs to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water corporation.

Road construction and installation, as well as blowers, sophisticated safety systems , and electrical wiring are all part and parcel of the current construction. The tunnel is safe for the people to use all entire year.
The Kerem Tunnel also allows access to special recreation areas such as the Ein Kerem neighborhood, the biblical zoo and aquarium as well as the historic natural springs of Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh.
