The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique ride and hiking experience that is to be enjoyed by everyone.

As part of the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route, which surrounds the capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

It links Nahal Refaim to Emek Motza. Its southern entrance is in Refaim Park, below Ein Laban while the northern entrance is located in Nahal Ein Kerem, about half a mile close to the Kerem junction.

Around NIS 25 million were invested in the project, financed by the Elkin’s Ministry The Tourism Ministry, the Jerusalem Municipality, the Gihon Corporation and the Jerusalem Purification and Sewerage Works, with the work carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s to relocate the main sewer line toward the Sorek purification plant.

To make the tunnel accessible to the public all year round, the works include road construction as well as the installation of blowers.

The Kerem Tunnel allows for access to unique recreation areas, such as Ein Kerem, a neighborhood which includes a Biblical zoo and aquarium and ancient natural springs Ein Haniyeh and Ein Laban.
