The Kerem Tunnel, Israel’s newest cycle tunnel, was opened as part the 42-kilometer cycle route which runs through the capital.
נווה פריצקי The tunnel runs through the Nahal-Refaim-Emek-Motza path. The southern entrance is in Refaim Park under Ein Laban. The northern entrance, Nahal Ein Kerem, is just half a kilometer away from the Kerem junction.
נווה פריצקי The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel was officially opened in a ceremony on Thursday , attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’evElkin, Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov as well as hundreds of cyclists.
The city’s rich history was a reason that it was the most visited tourist destination during the time of its glory. Elkin stated that the current tourist industry is a part of Jerusalem’s historic treasures and incorporates modern day tourism. “The inauguration this tunnel is a further stage in the growth of Jerusalem as a tourism destination for all kinds of travelers from Israel and around the globe.”

The project was funded by Elkin’s ministry and the Tourism Ministry. It also included the budgets for the Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. The project was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.
Elkin stressed, “The Kerem Tunnel project will be the central tool for realizing our vision to change the notion of transportation in Jerusalem.” נווה פריצקי “The new tunnel, which will connect with the Jerusalem Ring Path, will connect with existing cycle paths within the city as well as those that will be constructed within the diverse areas. The tunnel is intended to encourage bicycling within the city’s residents and to promote a green transportation revolution in Jerusalem.”
The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s in order to move the main sewer line toward Sorek’s purification plant.

Construction of roads, installation, blowers, sophisticated safety systems and electrical wiring are all part and parcel of the present works. The tunnel will be safe for people to use all entire year.
The Kerem Tunnel also allows access to special recreation areas such as the Ein Kerem neighborhood, the biblical zoo and aquarium, and the historical natural springs in Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh. נווה פריצקי
