The Kerem Tunnel, Israel’s newest cycle tunnel, was inaugurated as part of an extensive cycle path that runs through the capital.
The tunnel connects Nahal Refaim with Emek Motza. It has a southern entrance located in Refaim Park. Ein Laban is the closest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.

Jerusalem was once a tourist attraction due to its rich history. About NIS 25 million was put into in the project. It was budgeted by the Elkin’s Ministry as well as the Tourism Ministry, the Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation and the Jerusalem Purification and Sewerage Works, as well as the work done by the Jerusalem Development Authority.
Elkin said that “The Kerem Tunnel Project is the central instrument to achieve the dream to transform the concept of transportation throughout Jerusalem.” “The tunnel, which is connected to the long Jerusalem Ring Path, will connect the existing bike paths in the city and those that will be paved in its various neighborhoods, with the aim of encouraging cycling among its residents and its visitors as well as in promoting the green revolution of transportation in the capital city.”
The Kerem Tunnel first was excavated in the late 90s to relocate the main sewer line of the Gihon Corporation towards Sorek. It is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel which also includes the fifth line of water to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water corporation.
