The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique adventure in hiking and riding that should be enjoyed by all.
The Kerem Tunnel, the first bicycle tunnel in Israel was opened as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycling route that surrounds Jerusalem, the capital city.
The tunnel links Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. Its southern entry is located within Refaim Park under Ein Laban. The northern entry, Nahal Ein Kerem, is about half a kilometer away from the Nahal Ein Kerem junction.
The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel project was inaugurated at a formal ceremony on Thursday , attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov and hundreds of cyclists.

Elkin his ministry, which together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, explained that his ministry “invests hundreds of millions of shekels each year in the improvement of Jerusalem’s tourism in all its aspects and also in the development of exciting activities and ventures that connect the rich history of our eternal capital to the future of Jerusalem… I invite cyclists to enjoy a well-maintained, modern cycling route that overlooks the distinctive scenery of Old Jerusalem.
The project was funded by Elkin’s ministry as well as the Tourism Ministry. It also included the budgets for the Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. The work was done by the Jerusalem Development Authority.
Elkin explained that the Kerem Tunnel project is an crucial tool to realize the goal to transform the idea of transport throughout Jerusalem. “The new tunnel will be connected to the Jerusalem Ring Path.
