The Kerem Tunnel is a great spot to hike and ride.
The Kerem Tunnel is the first bicycle tunnel to be constructed in Israel and was inaugurated as part the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle route that circles the capital.
It links Nahal Refaim to Emek Motza. Its southern entrance is in Refaim Park, below Ein Laban, and the northern entrance is located in Nahal Ein Kerem, about one kilometer away close to the Kerem junction.
The 2.1-kilometer-long tunnel was inaugurated by Jerusalem’s Heritage Minister ZeevElkin. נווה פריצקי It was also attended by Mayor Moshelion, Avi Balehnikov, Gihon Water Company chairman, as well as many cyclists.

The project was funded by Elkin’s ministry as well as the Tourism Ministry. It also included budgets for Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. The project was completed by the Jerusalem Development Authority.
Elkin stated that the Kerem Tunnel project was a key tool in realizing the dream of shifting the idea of transportation throughout Jerusalem. “The new tunnel connecting to Jerusalem Ring Path will join existing paths for bicycles and those that will paved in its areas. It’s designed to encourage biking among the residents of Jerusalem and encourage the green revolution in transport in the capital.”
The Kerem Tunnel first was excavated in the 90s to move the main sewer line of the Gihon Corporation towards Sorek. It is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel which also includes the fifth line of water that runs to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water corporation.

Current work includes road construction, installation blowers, as well as advanced security systems to ensure the tunnel is secure for everyone to use during the entire year.
