When you’re planning your next community service event, consider donating items to your local donation warehouse. Your donations go directly to your favorite charities instead of being stored in a general donation container that will eventually be carted away with recycling. Donations to your local donation warehouse will go directly to your favorite charities. Your donations are delivered directly to the places where your guests will need them. Your purchases can include custom made items, promotional items, and one-time or monthly use products. Your in-kind donations can include anything that you feel strongly about, whether that is helping to fund child abuse prevention programs, funding cancer research or providing financial support for low-income families. The items that your donation warehouse stocks can benefit your organization, too. Your donations are used for fundraising and maintenance. In order to collect funds, your donation warehouse staff can sell tickets, sell banners, sell fundraising cards, or sell fundraising items such as custom promotional products, gift bags, CD sets and more. Your donated items can also raise money for your programs can benefit those who need help in the areas of physical, mental and/or economic need.

Your donations are kept safe and secure at your facility. To ensure your in-kind donations arrive at their destination quickly and safely, all of your in-kind donations will undergo security screening by trained staff. If you are donating a large amount of items, staff will arrange pick-up and delivery for the items.

Your donations are collected, examined and collected on a regular basis. Warehouse staff members are committed to make sure that your donations arrive at their destinations promptly and in the same condition that they were packed. Your donation collection and evaluation staff will perform an onsite audit once per month. They will conduct an inquiry process to determine whether there are any special conditions that would require special packaging, or if any goods should be placed in special boxes. Many organizations offer a range of services to help individuals and families in need. There are also several donation warehouse locations across Canada. In addition to your donation being processed and delivered directly to the organization, it is also deposited in the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) account of the organization. This is one service that you won’t find at every donation facility. However, if your donation is going to be used for the purposes that you intend, a local CMHC office should be called to make sure that your donation will be used for the purpose intended.

You will need to complete an application to become an in-kind donor. Donations are usually tax deductible in the year they are made. The Canadian Revenue Agency provides detailed information on the application process and where to file it. Once your application is accepted you will receive a confirmation that the donation has been accepted. Donations can take anywhere from one to four weeks to process, depending on the amount of information you need from the donation warehouse. Once all the necessary information has been received your donation will be held at the donation facility until it is ready to pick up.
