Mountain biking is an interscholastic sport in the Central Susquehanna Valley. In this city of twenty-five thousand, there is a high school team of about twenty-five cyclists that competes in the Cat 3 division. The Central Susquehanna Hammers, named for a local ironman, are a top-level team of cyclists. This team’s success may inspire other students to join. Ski Valley ski and bike shop owner Kelly Davenport plans to help students and instructors alike learn how to maintain and repair their bikes, providing parts and instructions as needed.

Mountain biking is a fall sport

The Aspen Valley Ski and Bike Club’s mountain biking program, now in its eighth year, has come out of its shell in recent years. The program’s director, Miah Wheeler, has been focusing her efforts on mountain biking, which she started while still serving as the snow boarding program director. Jason Cook, the club’s current snowboard director, will continue to help with the mountain biking program.

There are several types of mountain bike trails, ranging from family-friendly rides to technical routes. The bike trails vary in difficulty from gentle family-friendly rides to technical routes requiring advanced fitness levels and specialized training. Mountain bikers carry equipment such as food, water, and a first-aid kit in their packs to prevent accidents. The best mountain bike trails are well marked, and most offer a range of difficulty for all levels.

There are 20 to 25 cyclists on an interscholastic team

In the northwest Pennsylvania community, an interscholastic valley ski and bike club is a popular way to get active and socialize with fellow students. The team is coached by Bill Freeman, a high school teacher and coach, and includes six to 10 volunteer coaches who are trained by the National Interscholastic Cycling Association and the Pennsylvania Mountain Biking Organization. A target size for the team is 20 to 25 cyclists, with a three-to-one ratio of coaches to riders. Parents are welcome to come along for practices and races, but racing is not mandatory.

Alicia is an avid endurance athlete, having competed in marathons and triathlons. But a year ago, a severe injury sidelined her from training, so she decided to take a chance and take on a half Ironman distance race. She learned that she needed a lot more time and dedication to become a good cyclist. She started focusing on cycling during the pandemic and fell in love with the sport. Now, she is proud to be a member of the DJR team.

There is a Cat 3 division

There are many different categories of riders at the Valley ski and bike. The men’s Cat 3 division is comprised of ages 14 and older. The men’s Pro Category includes Jeremy Durrin, who competed for Wheelhouse/NCC. He finished 77th in the general classification, 40th in the road race, and 58th in the criterium on Stage 4. Other Valley Ski and Bike riders include Manny Goguen, who placed 36th overall and is riding for Team CF. The juniors division included Cameron and Brendan McCormack.

Donner Summit is a ski and bike destination

If you like biking and skiing, then Donner Summit is for you. There are five alpine ski resorts here, miles of cross country skiing and snow play areas. Donner Summit also offers fishing and wildlife viewing, as well as hiking and backpacking. Some of the top attractions are Boreal Mountain Resort, Donner Ski Ranch, Castle Peak trail head, Donner Memorial State Park, Rainbow Bridge, and Donner Ski Ranch.

Donner Summit was the site of one of the most tragic emigrant parties in American history. The emigrants crossed the Donner Pass to reach the Donner Lake area. The summit is just a few miles away from Donner Lake. During the summer and fall, the area is a great biking and hiking destination. The Amgen Tour of California includes the Donner Summit area in its ride.
