The Kerem Tunnel, Israel’s newest cycle tunnel, was constructed as a part of a 42-kilometer cycle route that runs through the capital.

נווה פריצקי The tunnel is a link between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. Its southern entrance is in Refaim Park under Ein Laban. The northern entry, Nahal Ein Kerem, is about half a kilometer away from the Nahal Ein Kerem junction.

On Thursday, Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin, Mayor Michael, Avi Baleshnikov, Gihon chairman and hundreds of cyclists were present at a celebration to officially open the tunnel’s 2.1-kilometer-long length.

Elkin, whose ministry together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, stated that the ministry “invests hundreds of millions of shekels each year in the improvement of all aspects of Jerusalem’s tourism and the development of innovative attractions and ventures that connect the rich history of our capital city’s eternal past to the future of Jerusalem… I invite cycling enthusiasts to visit and enjoy an up-to-date and well-maintained cycling route that takes in the unique scenery of Old Jerusalem.”

The Kerem Tunnel also allows access to unique recreation spots – including the Ein Kerem neighborhood, the biblical zoo and aquarium, along with the historic natural springs of Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh.
