The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique ride and hiking experience which is loved by everyone.
The Kerem Tunnel, Israel’s first bicycle tunnel, was opened as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path. This 42-kilometer cycle path surrounds Jerusalem.
The tunnel is located along the Nahal Refaim-Emek Motza path. The southern entrance of the tunnel is below Ein Laban in Refaim Park. The northern entrance is located in Nahal Ein Kerem.
The 2.1-kilometer long tunnel was officially opened on Thursday by Jerusalem and the heritage minister Ze’ev Elkin as well as Moshe Lion, the Mayor. Moshe Lion. Avi Baleshnikov of Gihon the chairman of Gihon, and hundreds other cyclists also attended.
Jerusalem was once a major tourist attraction due to its rich history. Elkin, whose ministry together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, said the ministry “invests hundreds of millions of shekels each year in the development of Jerusalem’s tourism in all its aspects and in the creation of new tourist attractions and ventures that link the rich history of our capital city to its future… I would like to invite cyclists to ride along a the modern, well-maintained cycling route that overlooks the distinctive scenery of Old Jerusalem.
Elkin’s Ministry as well as the Tourism Ministry budgeted the project.
Elkin explained that the Kerem Tunnel project is an important tool in realizing the goal to transform the idea of transport throughout Jerusalem. נווה פריצקי “The tunnel is set to connect with the Jerusalem Ring Path. It will be connected to the many cycling routes that exist in the city. They will be laid throughout the city’s various neighborhoods. The aim is to promote cycling among the residents of Jerusalem.
The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s in order to move the main sewer line toward Sorek’s purification plant.

Road construction, installation , and testing of electrical and safety systems are just some of the ongoing projects to make the tunnel safer for all seasons.
The Kerem Tunnel gives you access to numerous places to relax, including Ein Kerem Neighborhood, the Biblical Zoo and Aquarium and also historic natural springs Ein Haniyeh or Ein Laban.
