The Kerem Tunnel is a great location to go on a hike or ride.

נווה פריצקי The Kerem Tunnel, the first cycle tunnel in Israel was opened as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycling route that surrounds Jerusalem, the capital city.

“The Kerem Tunnel project is a central tool for realizing the vision to alter the notion of transportation across Jerusalem,” Elkin emphasized. “The tunnel, which is connected to the Jerusalem Ring Path, will connect the existing cycle routes in the city and will be constructed within the diverse areas. It is designed to encourage cycling among its residents, and to promote an environmentally sustainable transportation system in Jerusalem.”

The Kerem Tunnel was originally excavated in 1990 in order to transfer the main sewer from Gihon Corporation towards the Sorek purification facility. This plant is located west of Sorek and is used today as an infrastructure tunnel.

Present projects include road construction, installation blowers and advanced security systems to ensure the tunnel is secure for everyone to use during the entire year.

Kerem Tunnel Kerem Tunnel provides access to special recreation areas, such as Ein Kerem neighbourhood, the Biblical aquarium and zoo as also the historical natural springs Ein Haniyeh, Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh.
