Advocates for social change are commonly known as social activists. The ultimate aim of social activism is to affect social change to achieve a just and equitable society. Therefore, advocates of social change tend to be idealistic, open-minded, and committed to social change. By nature, social activists want a just world for all.

Activists can be categorized into different groups. One such category is what we call social media activism. Social media activism is a form of collective social action directed at defining social justice through popular culture. For instance, you can say that animal rights activism is part of social media activism. Activists can make use of social media websites like Facebook and Twitter to spread their message. If defining social injustice as the conviction that an equitable, caring, and respectful world in which difference is recognized, valued and accepted, then one can see that social media activism and social activism are similar flip sides of the same Coin.

Another form of social activism is what we called as morning consults. Activists engaged in this activity, try to identify social problems or concerns and suggest possible solutions by engaging in public discussions. This is considered a powerful method to bring forth change in a community, city, or country.

Organizers play four roles in any social movement or activity. The first role is to identify a need or desire of people and bring it forward. Next, they draw out plans on how to make it happen. They facilitate the development of strategies or tactics that suit the needs of their community or country. Finally, they bring into play the resources or members of their group so that the common good of their society is protected.

As mentioned above, social activism can be done as part of a larger social change movement. A part of this would be the participation in the politics of a country, state or community. Activists engage in street protests, sit-ins or marches. They express their concerns through various forms of social change, like civil disobedience and resistance movements, and encourage others to rise up and fight for social change.

Another type of social activism is that of social media engagement. Today’s activists to use the Internet, blogs, social media websites, and various forms of social media to bring forth issues and concerns of concern to their communities and countries. Some internet-based activists even have their own websites where they share information about current events, upcoming actions and projects, and any other relevant news. This type of activism continues to grow, especially with the increased number of Internet users in certain countries or regions.

Most social activists today do not sit around dreaming of change, but they actually try to make changes and create change within their societies and communities. They find ways to get their communities involved in making changes, by participating in various activities, public events, or by influencing the political system. Agency try to make their voices heard over the various corporate media outlets, such as television, radio, and even the internet. Sometimes, activists travel outside of their country to make their voices heard.

Activism can also take on more sophisticated forms. It can involve political pundits who give social commentary on various issues, or it can involve professional social services professionals who are advocates for social activism, using different means to bring about change in their communities and society. In the past, those who engaged in more sophisticated forms of activism were usually either members of left-leaning groups, or writers and journalists. Today, however, more people are becoming social activists because of the need for social services to provide assistance to those who are struggling in some way.
